McAfee's Knob
Brad was off gallivanting across Asia during the summer, but that didn't stop him from organizing a second annual MacAfee's Knob hike.
It wasn't anywhere near as hot this time around, either. In no time flat, we were at the top.
I was certainly excited.
True to form, I hung around on the edge of the cliff.
We're really quite picturesque, aren't we?
And for some reason Julia went crawling around a big crevice.
Before we started the return trip, it was time for touristy pictures. Aww.
And a group shot, of course.
And what would a MacAfee's Knob trip be without a stop at The Homeplace? Not much, I tell you. In fact, some people even showed up just for dinner. Their loss... or rather, their weight gain, I suppose.

Dragon's Tooth
Just down the road from MacAfee's is the Dragon's Tooth. Later in the semester, a few of us took a trip down that way for a camping trip. I LOVE CAMPING.
Anyway, that whole section of the state is characterized by rock layers at odd slanty angles. At the top of this ridge, some rock is exposed in what looks kind of like teeth, hence the name.
There's a good view, too.
So we hung out on top and watched the sun set. Really, quite relaxing.

Devil's Marbleyard
Around Thanksgiving time, an even smaller group of us went to visit the Devil's Marbleyard, near Natural Bridge. Here, Julia does a good job of showing the place off.
It's really big, I might add.
Also: good views of the Fall foliage. In this shot, I'm bouldering around one of the larger chunks of rock.
I was the one with the map, too.
Yep, the Devil's Marbleyard is pretty much Old Rag on steroids.
At the top, we took a break for lunch.
Brad and I surveyed the area and decided not to attempt to rejoin the trail to complete the circuit hike, but rather just head back down to get an early start on dinner. It would have required some bushwacking through a really steep area that had just been burned in a fire a few years back, so there would have been really loose soil and kind of dangerous. Anyway, a good decision, methinks.
I like this picture.
This one's not bad, either. I think I'm pointing out where I-81 should be.

Thanksgiving Break
Later in the week, my dad and I went to walk along the Richmond Floodwall. It's a big concrete thing that they built to hold back the James during floods. Fortunately, we haven't had any that large since they built it. Unfortunately, we've had really heavy rains over town once or twice, so it actually held the water in and caused some flooding. Either way, it's appropriately named. Here's the Manchester bridge, showing off some nifty perspective.

Check out those reflections.
Anyway, the weather was nice, the clouds were colorful, and the financial district has tall buildings. The end. Maybe next time I'll finish a season of pages fewer than 8 months behind schedule.
