Field Trips

February 2006

February's production was massive: over 315 source objects with which to make this webisode. So one could seriously say that the Virginia Tech Experience is back in full swing this month. The ever unpredictable Blacksburg weather (and its equally unpredictable Hillcrest Residents) will be sure to astound (or appall) you this month.

Field Trips

Hillcrustaceans are naturally social. Therefore, it makes sense that they travel places in groups. Here are just a few escapades of the building's residents.

Basketball Game (Versus N.C. State)

OK, so this wasn't really much of a field trip. A couple of us went to a basketball game. It was quite dreary and snowy that day.
But the weather was quite nice indoors... the place was positively jumpin'. [Rimshot].

Yeah, so I stood around for about 2 hours, we lost, oh well. Basketball at Tech obviously doesn't have quite the established traditions of football. But we're getting better, and they're working on it. Just check out the orange-ness of the student section (the left side).

IHOP... or is it iHop?
It's Thursday night, and you're done with Physics homework. The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are reruns. It's 11:00. What are you going to do?

Why, go to IHOP, of course!
They're open 24 hours a day, but apparently nobody know this. So you sit around in the empty restaurant, in the most cramped booth and take pictures.

Be sure to get one with your favorite condiment! And get a video of that weird thing floating in Kevin's water.
And then watch while your friends start to drive away and then just make faces at you.

Mmm... hash browns and ketchup.

Kabuki

I'm sure every moderately sized city has one of those Japanese restaurants where they cook you food on a big grill right in front of you at your table. Well, 15 minutes away in Christiansburg, there exists such a place. A group of Hillcrustaceans made a reservation, had an additional space left at their table, and decided to invite me to come along. Here's the crowd, preparing for departure. Check out Jeremy's dance-type routine.
And now, useless background information. Hillcrest residents can get commuter parking passes. I don't know why, since we're the closest to the residential lots of all the residential buildings, but oh well. So this is how far away parking is from the building. Check out stately old Hillcrest in the background, as Erin and Jeremy walk to Chris' car.

If you've ever been to one of these grill-in-table type restaurants, you'll probably recoginze this slashy, blue font as common to their logo as well. I know it is exactly like the one in Richmond.
Huttah! Some of our people!

Look at that food cook! Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of any of the showmanship of our chef. I'm working on getting some of the videos of him stabbing himself with a knife (unintentionally) or creating a flaming onion volcano (this one was intentional). [You know who you are... hint, hint!]
But of course, this whole website is a sham and a farce (I'm told) if I'm not in any of the pictures, so fortunately the people next to us at the table took this group picture.
