Febtober! Febturday! February!
Get With the Programs

February 2006

February's production was massive: over 315 source objects with which to make this webisode. So one could seriously say that the Virginia Tech Experience is back in full swing this month. The ever unpredictable Blacksburg weather (and its equally unpredictable Hillcrest Residents) will be sure to astound (or appall) you this month.

Get With the Programs

So, I know I haven't really told anybody at home about this, but I am the Hillcrest Hall Council's Programs Officer. That means that I kind of have to do some stuff in regards to programs in the building. These are their stories.

Valentine's Day Cardmaking

What would Valentine's day be without cards? To facilitate this, the Hall Council got a bunch of craft supplies together at a big table in the living room. Here, our Fearless Leader/President charges the group to be creative. Or something.
And then he left, leaving me to supervise. Here I am with some of the participants. Now, for a tour of some creative doortags. While we were gathering craft items, we found an Ellison machine die for a door tag. It's a good thing we got some of them, because they were by far the most popular item.

In my hand now is a 2-sided door tag. This side reads "Making War." You guess what the other side says.

Now this is a clever joke on somebody's nickname. But you kind of had to be there. See, that's the problem with inside jokes: they don't work once you get on the outside.
We also had some big rolls of bulletin board paper. Here, my own RA prepares to vanquish me after a hard fought fencing match. Check out his "excellent" form.
Spring Semester Coffeehouse

It's Coffeehouse time again! This time I brought my tripod to get some decent quality shots. Here, some early arrivals get settled in.
More people... our first act is warming up in the back left corner.

We're almost ready to go now!
And here, our skilled MC welcomes everybody. Yes, Brad is wearing the same shirt as above. But he did have 5 days to wash it... I assume.

Classical serenades from the building's two Electrical Engineering/Music double majors. An interesting combination... but it seems to work for them.
Blurry People! But in the background, basking in the glow of his entourage is the Hillcrest Jukebox. There are some more pictures of him in the hodgepodge section.

One good thing about Hillcrest is that there are so many people with so many diverse skills throughout the building. Here, 3rd floor RA Rick (a great public speaker) reads a humorous essay by Forester/Writer/Good Singer Collin (he's a triple threat!) Written in the style of an AP news story, "Women Retake the Night" tells the fictionalized story of the year the Retake the Night event got a little out of hand. Again, you kind of had to be there for it.
Way to stick it out, crowd!

Intermission = FOOD!!!!
See: Shakespeare.

See: Schroeder.
See: A "Bass Guitar."

Mmm... food!
"And here we are at hour 19 of our 24 hour telethon to raise money for Brad's Airplane Fuel Fund... operators are standing by..."

As the night progresses, things start to get weird.

Right side: "Ladies and Gentlemen... Ron Burgandy on Jazz Flute!"

Left side: Umm... yeah.
Dylan and Greg perform a duet.

Jeremy, Greg, Myself, and Kevin take a stab at "Rock Lobster" by the B-52s. I taught myself how to play guitar (only the 10 notes required) in 3 days.
Yay! I participated.

And what would a Hillcrest coffeehouse be without Peter doing some sort of Monty Python sketch? This time: "I Like Chinese" and "The Architect Sketch"
